40 Afghan Migrants Die from Severe Cold While Crossing into Iran

Metro53 - Kabul (Web Desk): Afghan citizens fleeing the country have begun risking their lives in an attempt to escape Afghanistan. According to Iranian media, 40 Afghan nationals died from extreme cold while trying to enter Iran illegally.

The Afghan migrants lost their lives within Iranian territory near Afghanistan’s Herat province. Reports said the migrants chose the icy Islam Qala route to cross into Iran and were trapped in a snowstorm along the way.

Several individuals are still missing, while Iranian authorities have launched a search operation to locate survivors and recover bodies.

According to the latest figures from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Iranian authorities have deported more than 1.8 million Afghan nationals back to Afghanistan between January and the end of November 2025.
