Metro53 - JHELUM: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Saniya Safi on Tuesday directed authorities to further intensify the ongoing campaign against wheat hoarding and ensure transparent wheat procurement across the district.

She was chairing a meeting of the Agriculture Advisory Committee held to review measures relating to agricultural development, wheat procurement, anti-hoarding operations and the provision of facilities to farmers.

District Food Controller Shams Abbas, Pakistan Kissan Board Jhelum President Chaudhry Musarrat Nawaz Dhammial, officials of the agriculture department and representatives of other relevant departments attended the meeting and briefed participants on ongoing initiatives.

During the meeting, Ms Safi stressed the need to ensure that farmers receive proper compensation for their crops through effective monitoring of wheat procurement and strict action against hoarding.

She also directed authorities to ensure the availability of fertilisers, seeds and other agricultural inputs at officially notified rates, adding that the district administration was utilising all available resources to resolve farmers’ issues and would not tolerate negligence in this regard.

The ADC Revenue urged agriculture department officials to engage directly with farmers in the field and raise awareness about modern agricultural technology and improved farming practices to help increase per-acre crop yield.

The meeting also reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy against those involved in the black marketing of fertilisers and pesticides, while emphasising continued efforts for farmers’ welfare and the development of the agricultural sector.
