Metro53 - LONDON: Protests sparked by the death of 18-year-old Henry Novak intensified across parts of England, leaving 11 police officers injured and nearly 100 people arrested, according to media reports.
Reports indicate that right-wing groups and supporters organized demonstrations in several cities following Novak’s death. Clashes between protesters and police were reported at a number of locations, resulting in injuries to multiple officers and widespread arrests.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed concern over the incident, stating that he had watched footage of Novak’s arrest and found it deeply disturbing.
Starmer called for a full and impartial investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.
He further said that allegations of racism surrounding the case should be thoroughly examined so that all facts can be established and made public.
Meanwhile, Alexis Boon, Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police, issued an apology regarding the circumstances of Novak’s arrest.
According to reports, the teenager was handcuffed during the arrest and repeatedly complained that he was having difficulty breathing. The incident has since drawn significant public attention and prompted calls for a comprehensive review of the events leading to his death.
