Metro53 - GUJRAT/LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has fixed for hearing a petition challenging the freezing of assets and proclamation orders issued against former federal minister Chaudhry Monis Elahi.

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum has constituted a special two-member bench to hear the case. The bench, comprising Justice Ali Zia Bajwa and Justice Tariq Nadeem, is scheduled to take up the matter at 10am.

The development comes after Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi recused himself from hearing the case, prompting the formation of a new bench.

The petition was filed by Monis Elahi’s mother, Qaisara Elahi, who argued that her son is residing abroad and has been subjected to politically motivated cases lacking legal merit.

According to the petition, a court of the National Accountability Bureau had earlier dismissed an appeal against the freezing of Monis Elahi’s assets, leading the petitioner to seek relief from the Lahore High Court.

The petition requests the court to set aside the orders freezing Monis Elahi’s assets and declaring him a proclaimed offender. The court is expected to examine the maintainability of the petition as well as other legal aspects of the case during the hearing.

The proceedings are being closely watched due to their legal and political significance, with the court’s observations likely to shape the future course of the matter.
