Metro53 - GUJRAT: Police in Gujrat have arrested a man accused of defrauding local jewellers of gold ornaments worth millions of rupees by exploiting their trust, officials said.
According to police, several jewellery shop owners filed complaints with the B-Division police station, alleging that Raja Imran, son of Muhammad Latif, who is associated with the jewellery business in Sarafa Bazaar, had built a reputation of trust by borrowing jewellery on the pretext of showing it to customers and returning it promptly.
Police said that on June 8, 2026, the suspect allegedly visited two jewellery shops at different times and obtained 36 gold rings from one shopkeeper. From another, he allegedly took two gold bangles, 10 gold bracelets and 24 gold rings under the same pretext before fleeing with the valuables.
Following the incident, Station House Officer (SHO) Shafqat Mahmood, along with his team, launched an investigation using modern investigative techniques and subsequently arrested the suspect.
During the investigation, police said they recovered stolen gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs17.2 million, along with Rs1.2 million in cash from the accused's possession.
