Metro53 - ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered that former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a comprehensive medical examination.
According to reports, the court directed that Imran Khan be transferred to the private hospital today under strict security arrangements. A medical board is to be constituted, comprising a cardiologist, Dr Uzma Khan and his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan.
The court also directed authorities to ensure that law and order outside the hospital is not disrupted during the transfer.
The court ordered that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his family members once a week and directed that his medical report be submitted to the court.
During the hearing, Justice Shahid Waheed questioned why the petitioner insisted on shifting Imran Khan to a private hospital instead of PIMS. Lawyer Uzair Bhandari responded that Imran Khan was often taken to PIMS for medical treatment.
Justice Shahid Waheed also asked who would bear the expenses of treatment at the private hospital. Dr Uzma Khan said that the family would bear the hospital expenses themselves.
The court further directed that Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Uzma Khan accompany Imran Khan to the hospital.
During the proceedings, the Additional Attorney General stated that no notice had been issued to the government regarding Dr Uzma Khan's petition. The court said the government's point would also be considered.
Advocate General Islamabad clarified that he had not appeared in Dr Uzma Khan's case. Justice Naeem Afghan questioned why the matter had not been raised earlier, while Justice Shahid Waheed reminded him that he was Islamabad's senior-most law officer and urged him to handle the proceedings appropriately.
