Metro53 - LAHORE (Web Desk): Senior politician Dr Syed Asif Kirmani has said that PTI founder Imran Khan faced imprisonment more bravely than former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Speaking during a podcast with Farrukh Shahbaz Warraich, Kirmani said Nawaz Sharif’s imprisonment was not as difficult as the conditions Imran Khan is currently facing in jail.

He recalled that after Nawaz Sharif returned from London and was imprisoned, meetings with him remained restricted for several months. His health also deteriorated while he was in Kot Lakhpat Jail, following which he was shifted to Services Hospital.

“Imran Khan’s imprisonment is tougher. Nawaz Sharif did not face a jail term as difficult as the one Imran Khan is facing,” Kirmani said.

Commenting on the country’s political and economic situation, Kirmani said Pakistan appeared to be facing one crisis after another, while corruption had reached an extreme level. He criticised the government’s performance, saying that the poor had become poorer since 2022.

Kirmani also criticised the administration of PIMS over alleged failures in hospital safety arrangements and called for action against those responsible for the deaths of patients.

Talking about Nawaz Sharif’s political future, he said the PML-N supremo was now seen only occasionally and claimed that his political legacy was being passed on to his daughter, Maryam Nawaz.

Kirmani further claimed that Nawaz Sharif had initially been reluctant to take charge of the PDM government and that his political popularity declined after the “Vote Ko Izzat Do” slogan lost momentum.
