Metro53 - GUJRAT (Web Desk): Complaints of a sharp surge in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have surfaced across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with claims that the gas is being sold for up to Rs 500 per kilogram. According to the LPG Distributors Association, a significant gap exists between the officially fixed price and the actual market rates being charged to consumers.

Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Distributors Association, stated that while the official LPG price for October was set at Rs 279 per kg, consumers in various parts of Punjab and KPK are being forced to purchase it at up to Rs 500 per kg.

He further claimed that in mountainous and hilly regions, LPG prices have escalated to as high as Rs 600 per kg. He emphasized that this vast disparity between the prescribed rates and selling prices is placing a severe financial burden on citizens.

Criticism of OGRA

Khokhar heavily criticized the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for failing to control LPG prices, stating that the regulatory body is taking no effective action to curb the price hikes.

He urged the government to utilize the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) terminal to keep LPG prices under control, asserting that such a move could help stabilize market rates.
