Metro53 - London (Web Desk): Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol once again revived memories of Raj and Simran in London as they attended the unveiling of their iconic characters’ statues.
To honour the popularity and long-lasting impact of Aditya Chopra’s classic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), life-size bronze statues of Raj and Simran have been installed at London’s famous Leicester Square.
Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol made a surprise appearance at the special event, unveiling the statues and delighting fans who were left in pleasant shock.
Pictures and videos from the ceremony went viral on social media within minutes, with fans celebrating the timeless on-screen chemistry of the beloved duo. Kajol looked stunning in a light-toned elegant saree, while Shah Rukh Khan drew all eyes in a classic black suit. Both stars posed with their statues to mark the film’s 30-year milestone.
In his Instagram post, Shah Rukh Khan expressed gratitude for the film’s global impact and the immense love from fans. Quoting his famous line, he wrote, “Bade bade deshon mein aisi choti choti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita!”
He added that seeing the bronze statues of Raj and Simran installed at Leicester Square— the first Indian film statues to join the Scenes in the Square trail—was a moment of great joy. He thanked the people of the UK for making it possible, inviting everyone visiting London to stop by and create more beautiful memories connected to the film.
Released in 1995, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge earned a massive ₹102.5 crore, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Decades later, it remains one of the most loved films in India and across the world.
