Metro53 - Sydney (Web Desk): Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed that Naveed Akram, the armed suspect involved in the Sydney incident, was not listed on any counterterrorism watch list.
Speaking to the media in Sydney, the Prime Minister said that both armed individuals were not part of any major extremist cell. However, he added that both suspects were clearly influenced by extremist ideologies.
Anthony Albanese stated that police are not investigating the involvement of any third person in the incident. He further disclosed that multiple homemade improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered from the suspects’ vehicle.
It is worth noting that it has been revealed that Sajid Akram, who was involved in the attack on Sydney’s coast, was of Indian origin.
A person who worked with 24-year-old attacker Naveed Akram said that Naveed’s father, Sajid Akram, was from India, while his mother is Italian. The individual added that they could not have imagined such an attack, noting that Naveed often mentioned having licensed firearms.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident to fully understand the background and motives behind the attack.
