Metro53 - Beijing (Web Desk): A wave of public criticism has emerged after strict fines related to marriage and personal life were imposed in a village in China.
According to the South China Morning Post, the administration of a village in China’s city of Lincang issued a notice announcing heavy penalties for out-of-province marriages, extramarital relationships, and pregnancies outside of marriage.
As per the notice, anyone who marries outside the province will be fined 1,500 yuan (approximately 60,000 Pakistani rupees), while an unmarried pregnancy will result in a fine of 3,000 yuan (around 120,000 rupees).
Similarly, couples living together under extramarital relationships will be charged 500 yuan annually. The notice further states that if a child is born within ten months of marriage, a fine of 3,000 yuan will also be imposed.
The policy has sparked severe criticism on social media, with users calling it unjust and illegal.
