Metro53 - London (Web Desk): Renowned British boxer Anthony Joshua has been injured in a car accident in Nigeria, while two members of his team were killed.
According to a foreign news agency, the former world heavyweight boxing champion’s vehicle met with an accident in Nigeria’s Ogun State.
Nigerian police stated that Anthony Joshua’s car collided with a stationary truck on the roadside. The British boxer sustained minor injuries in the crash; however, two of his close friends and team members lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Joshua was shifted to a hospital for precautionary medical examination and treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable.
The Ogun State Police Command said investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
According to Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), initial evidence suggests that the vehicle lost control while overtaking at high speed and crashed into a truck parked along the road.
Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also expressed sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to Anthony Joshua and the bereaved families, and termed the accident a heartbreaking tragedy.
