Metro53 - Jhelum (Web Desk): On the special directives of Deputy Commissioner Jhelum, Mir Raza Ozgan, Assistant Commissioner Sohawa, Ghazala Asghar, conducted surprise inspections of various markets and bazaars across the city. The primary objective of the visit was to keep prices of essential commodities under control and ensure effective measures against profiteering to provide relief
During the inspection, the Assistant Commissioner closely reviewed prices at grocery stores, fruit and vegetable stalls, meat shops, and other outlets selling daily-use items. She issued clear instructions to shopkeepers to display official price lists at prominent places so that consumers could be aware of the notified rates. She warned that no leniency would be shown to those charging prices higher than the government-approved rates.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jhelum Mir Raza Ozgan said that the district administration is fully active in ensuring the availability of quality essential items to citizens at reasonable and affordable prices. He emphasized that indiscriminate action would continue against profiteers, hoarders, and those involved in illegal profiteering to safeguard public interest.
During the visit, the Assistant Commissioner imposed heavy fines on several shopkeepers for failing to display price lists and for overcharging customers. Some were issued strict warnings, with notice of tougher action in case of future violations.
Ghazala Asghar stated that markets would be inspected on a daily basis to curb artificial inflation. She made it clear that no one would be allowed to engage in hoarding, illegal profiteering, or exploitation of the public, and violators could face fines as well as imprisonment. The administration’s actions are being appreciated by citizens.
