Metro53 - Gujrat (Web Desk):A suspect wanted in multiple serious criminal cases by A-Division Police was killed in a firing incident in Gujrat. According to police, the incident occurred while the accused was being shifted to another area for recovery purposes.
Police officials identified the deceased as Naveed Inayat alias Mirza Chand, son of Muhammad Inayat, a resident of Mohalla Garhi Ahmadabad. According to official records, the accused was wanted in several serious crimes and had more than 10 registered cases against him, including charges related to narcotics, illegal weapons, rape, unnatural offences, and murder.
Police records further revealed that a prominent case, FIR No. 503/16 dated May 12, 2016, included charges of kidnapping and murder. In this case, the accused had been sentenced to death but was later acquitted.
Recently, another case was registered against the accused at A-Division Police Station, FIR No. 13/26 dated January 21, 2026, in which he was accused of allegedly sexually assaulting and robbing a transgender citizen at gunpoint and knifepoint. Police stated that following this incident, the accused was also issuing threats to members of the transgender community.
Police conducted an operation using modern technology and professional expertise, arrested the accused, and carried out a DNA test as part of scientific investigation procedures.
According to police, last night the accused was being taken to the Sadar Lalamusa Police Station area for the recovery of illegal weapons used in the crime when two unidentified armed individuals opened fire on the police party. The attack was reportedly aimed at freeing the accused. During the firing, the accused sustained injuries and was immediately shifted for medical treatment, but he succumbed to his wounds.
Police stated that a case regarding the incident has been registered and investigations are underway, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the attackers. Officials added that all aspects of the incident are being examined and legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.
