Metro53 - Lahore (Web Desk): After the recent increase of Rs55 per litre in petroleum products, fears of a new wave of inflation are rising across Pakistan. The global energy crisis triggered by the recent tensions and conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has also impacted energy markets worldwide.
Following the latest increase in oil prices in Pakistan, reports suggest that Nawaz Sharif is not pleased with the decision. It is being said that the decision was taken with great reluctance and under serious pressure.
Speaking in a program on Aik News titled Jawab Do with Farukh Warraich, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator Ikhtiar Wali Khan said the government was compelled to take the step.
He explained that whenever people hear about a possible shortage, panic buying begins across the country. “People rush to petrol pumps carrying cans and containers, filling their vehicles, tanks, and extra drums as well,” he said. According to him, such panic behavior forces the government to take preventive measures, which is why the decision to increase petrol prices by Rs55 per litre had to be made.
