Metro53 - GUJRAT: A woman from Gujrat, Naseem Akhtar, has completed a hand-embroidered نسخة of the Quran after more than three decades of work, in what is being described as a remarkable display of dedication and craftsmanship.
According to reports, Ms Akhtar began the project in August 1987 and completed it in January 2018. The work involved approximately 300 metres of fabric and 25,000 metres of thread. The finished manuscript comprises 10 volumes and weighs between 55 and 60 kilogrammes.
She is said to have first written the Quranic text onto cloth before embroidering each word by hand. Green thread was used for the verses, while golden thread was employed for decorative elements.
Reports further suggest that Ms Akhtar maintained strict standards of ritual purity during the process and often worked in the last hours of the night.
Some sources claim that the completed work was displayed at a Quran exhibition in Medina. However, independent confirmation of its exhibition details remains limited.
The project reflects years of sustained effort and highlights a unique form of devotional art rooted in traditional craftsmanship.
