UOG hosts national bilingual debating event “Lafz 26” with wide participation

Metro53 - University of Gujrat: The Debating Society of the University of Gujrat successfully organised a two-day national-level bilingual event titled “Lafz 26” on April 16 and 17 at the Hafiz Hayat Campus, bringing together students from across the country.

The competition featured over 100 participants representing leading universities. It was conducted in two stages, with four teams and eight individual speakers qualifying for the final round held at the Quaid-i-Azam Auditorium on April 17. Finalists delivered high-quality speeches, captivating the audience with their oratory skills.

Teams that reached the finals included Government College University Lahore, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Zamindar College Gujrat and Hazara University. In individual categories, participants from institutions such as Gulab Devi Medical Complex Lahore, Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College, Islamia College Civil Lines Lahore, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, University of Chenab and Hazara University stood out.

A musical night was arranged at the end of the first day, providing participants with an engaging recreational experience. The second day began with junior category contests, followed by the final round of the main competition.

The event concluded with a grand mushaira, enhancing the literary atmosphere, followed by the announcement of results. Government College University Lahore emerged as the overall best team, while its speaker Aiman won the Hafiz Hayat Gold Medal. The runner-up trophy went to the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

In individual categories, Gulab Devi Medical Complex Lahore secured first position in English speech, while Government College University Lahore won the Punjabi speech category, with the University of Agriculture Faisalabad finishing as runner-up.

Winning teams and speakers were awarded a total cash prize of Rs150,000.

The ceremony was attended by Registrar Muhammad Naeem Butt and Director Student Services Centre Madam Shama Tahseen as chief guests. The event was organised under the supervision of the Student Services Centre, with comprehensive arrangements made for participants, including a formal dinner at the conclusion of the event.
