Metro53 - Lahore (Web Desk) — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the introduction of the “Chief Minister Punjab Honorarium Card for Mosque Imams.”
Presiding over a meeting on Wednesday, the chief minister set February 2026 as the deadline for the full rollout of the card. She directed that payments to imams begin from January 1 through pay orders, while from February 1 onward, disbursements will be made via the newly approved honorarium card.
Officials briefed the meeting that 62,994 registration forms have been received from imams across the province, with verification currently in progress. The chief minister instructed that the registration process continue uninterrupted.
It was also decided that honorarium payments would be discontinued for any imam found involved in activities against national interest or in moral or financial misconduct. The meeting resolved to establish mosque management committees and tehsil-level management bodies across Punjab. Maryam Nawaz further directed assistant commissioners to hold monthly meetings with imams.
The chief minister ordered the continuation of combing operations in sensitive areas, digital monitoring of individuals listed in the Fourth Schedule, and sustained action against illegally residing Afghan nationals.
The meeting also approved legislation to ensure strict penalties for damaging Safe City cameras or other government property.
