Metro53 - Multan (Web Desk) – President of the Farmers’ Union, Khalid Khokhar, has warned that agriculture is facing a severe crisis and urged the government to declare an immediate emergency.
Khokhar made the demand during a press conference at the Multan Press Club. He highlighted that potato and kinnow farmers are unable to cover production costs, with a 120-kg sack of potatoes selling for just PKR 1,800 instead of PKR 8,000. He called on the government to purchase potatoes directly from farmers and export them.
Khokhar also stated that farmers are being forced into protests. Following government intervention, a protest scheduled for January 5 was postponed to January 26.
He further demanded that the government set support prices for crops a year in advance, fix the wheat price at PKR 4,000 per unit, and provide electricity to agricultural users at PKR 15 per unit.
