Metro53 - Jhelum (Web Desk): Despite a government ban, the open sale of cigarettes and naswar continues unabated in Jhelum city and its surrounding areas, posing serious risks to the younger generation and putting their future in jeopardy.

According to details, numerous pan shops and grocery stores in Jhelum city and suburban areas are openly selling loose cigarettes and naswar. Despite restrictions imposed by the authorities, these hazardous products are being sold without restraint to both minors and adults, resulting in a growing number of young people falling into addiction.

Citizens stated that nearly 90 percent of the youth are being directly affected by this illegal trade.

Social and civic circles have expressed concern that the easy availability of loose cigarettes and naswar is not only a clear violation of the law but is also becoming a serious threat to the health and future of the younger generation. Parents have also voiced deep concern, saying that the access of underage children to these substances has increased anxiety within households.

Social, welfare, charitable, and civic organizations of the city have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take immediate notice of this grave issue, ensure strict enforcement of the ban on the sale of loose cigarettes and naswar, and take indiscriminate action against violators so that the youth can be protected from this destructive trend.
