Metro53 - Colombo (Web Desk):Indian men’s cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav has responded to questions regarding handshakes with Pakistani players after the Pakistan–India match, saying that journalists should “wait 24 hours” to see what happens.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, Suryakumar Yadav said that preparations for the Pakistan–India match were carried out according to the scheduled plan. He stressed that the Pakistan–India clash is just a game and not something they play infrequently.

He added that the Indian team would try to deliver its best performance in the match. Commenting on Pakistani spinner Usman Tariq, the Indian captain said that Usman Tariq is a different kind of cricketer, but “we cannot afford to surrender our weapons,” adding that Pakistan’s spinners are performing well and India has planned accordingly.

When asked during the press conference about shaking hands with Pakistani players, Suryakumar Yadav replied, “Wait 24 hours for the handshake and see what happens tomorrow.”

He further stated that the Indian team had come to play good cricket and would continue to do so. Praising Pakistan’s performance, the Indian captain said that Pakistan played good cricket in the Asia Cup and is performing well here too.

Talking about the pressure of a Pakistan–India match, Suryakumar Yadav said that such matches do carry pressure, but controlling nerves and playing good cricket is the key.

It may be noted that Pakistan and India are set to face each other on Sunday in Colombo in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Both teams are placed in Group A and have won their two matches so far.
