Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court Issues Verdict in May 9 GHQ Attack Case

Metro53 - Rawalpindi (Web Desk) – The Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court has delivered its verdict in the May 9 GHQ attack case, sentencing 47 absconding accused to 10 years in prison each and a fine of PKR 500,000 each.

According to details, the court also ordered the confiscation of the accused’s properties. The convicted include Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul, Murad Saeed, Shibli Faraz, Hammad Azhar, Kanwal Shauzab, and Rashid Shafiq.

Other accused include Shahbaz Gill, Zulfi Bukhari, Muhammad Ahmed Chatha, Rai Hasan, Rai Muhammad Murtaza, Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Usman Saeed, and Ijaz Khan.

The court stated that in this case, charges were framed in December 2024 against 118 accused, including Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi. So far, statements of 44 witnesses have been recorded. Eighteen accused were repeatedly absent during the trial, and 29 never appeared in court after the case was registered.

The verdict further clarified that, under Section 21L of the Anti-Terrorism Act, the trial of 47 absconding accused was conducted separately.

The decision was announced by Judge Amjad Ali Shah of the Anti-Terrorism Court.
