Metro53 - Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan has taken another major step toward launching ultra-fast 5G internet services as the final round of the national spectrum auction has been completed. Major telecom companies in the country have invested billions of rupees to prepare for the next generation of mobile connectivity.
According to the report released after today’s auction round, mobile operators have secured key digital spectrum bands that will carry future 5G signals across the country. The move is expected to significantly increase internet speeds and reduce common issues such as call drops.
Key Spectrum Bands and Their Use
700 MHz (Best Coverage):
Out of three available blocks in this band, two were successfully sold. This frequency is known for providing strong signal penetration through walls and delivering reliable internet connectivity in remote and rural areas.
2300 MHz and 2600 MHz (Traffic Management):
All available blocks in these bands were sold, indicating that telecom companies are focusing on handling growing user traffic in major cities and improving services like video streaming.
3500 MHz (Core 5G Speed Band):
Often referred to as the “golden band” for 5G, the government offered 28 blocks in this category, of which 22 were sold. This band will play a crucial role in delivering extremely high-speed internet services to mobile users.
Prices and Investment
According to the report, telecom companies paid significant amounts to secure these digital pathways. A single block in the 2100 MHz band was priced at around $70 million, which is more than PKR 19 billion.
What Happens Next?
Although companies showed less interest in some older bands such as 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz, the strong demand for modern 5G spectrum indicates that Pakistan is moving rapidly toward entering the 5G era.
Telecom companies will now begin upgrading their network towers and infrastructure. Once the upgrades are completed, mobile users across Pakistan will be able to experience the benefits of faster and more reliable 5G internet services.
