Metro53 - Islamabad: The government has increased the prices of both petrol and diesel by Rs 26.77 per liter.
Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, stated that the increase is due to rising oil prices in the international market caused by ongoing regional tensions.
He explained that the government had been absorbing the impact of global price hikes for as long as possible. However, due to mounting pressure from increasing oil costs and commitments with international partners, the government was compelled to pass on the burden to consumers.
The minister added that both the federal and provincial governments had previously provided significant relief to the public. He expressed hope that regional stability would improve soon, allowing the government to reduce fuel prices and provide relief to the people.
