Metro53 - Former Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) MPA Maulana Muhammad Idrees was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Charsadda on Tuesday, police said.
Following his killing, JUI-F announced that all religious seminaries across the district would remain closed for three days in mourning.
Attack in Utmanzai
According to police, the attack took place in the Utmanzai area, where unidentified assailants opened fire on Maulana Idrees’ vehicle.
He died at the scene, while two policemen assigned to his security detail sustained serious injuries.
Police Obtain Suspects’ Images
District police officials said images of four suspected attackers had been obtained as part of the investigation.
District Police Officer (DPO) Charsadda said efforts were underway to trace and arrest those involved in the attack.
Prominent Religious Figure
Maulana Muhammad Idrees, a noted religious scholar and former member of the provincial assembly, was widely known in the region. His killing has triggered grief among supporters and religious circles across Charsadda.
