Metro53 - LAHORE (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special relief scheme aimed at reducing the impact of rising fuel prices on the public.
Launching the scheme, the prime minister said the government fully understands the financial burden caused by higher oil prices and would not leave people alone during the difficult period.
Under the special petrol relief scheme, motorcycle, rickshaw, Qingqi and owners of vehicles up to 800cc will receive a relief of Rs100 per litre.
Motorcycle, rickshaw and Qingqi users will be eligible for the relief on up to 20 litres of petrol per month, while owners of vehicles up to 800cc will receive the same relief on up to 30 litres per month.
The relief will therefore amount to a maximum of Rs2,000 per month for two- and three-wheelers and Rs3,000 per month for eligible small cars.
According to the announcement, the scheme will be implemented in Islamabad between Monday and Tuesday midnight, while it will be extended across Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, between Wednesday and Thursday midnight.
Registration for the special relief scheme has also started, with details of the registration process to be communicated to the public through an awareness campaign.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the provincial governments for their cooperation in providing information related to motorcycles, rickshaws and eligible small vehicles for registration under the scheme.
