Metro53 - DHAKA: A student of University of Dhaka has been found dead at her residence in what police have initially described as a possible case of suicide, prompting a wider investigation.

The deceased, identified as Munira Mahjabeen, was a master’s student in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies.

Police said her body was recovered from her home and later shifted to the Dhaka Medical College mortuary for post-mortem examination. Investigators have taken a teacher and a fellow student into custody for questioning as part of the inquiry.

According to officials, preliminary findings suggest possible personal connections between the deceased and one of her teachers, though authorities have stressed that the investigation is still ongoing.

Department Chairperson Qazi Tamanna Haque said the university was informed of the incident early in the morning, after which faculty members visited the student’s residence.

Police added that the family has raised concerns regarding the nature of the student’s relationship with the teacher, and a formal case is being processed based on these allegations.

Authorities stated that further legal action will depend on the post-mortem report and ongoing investigative findings.

The incident has sparked concern within the academic community, with calls for a transparent and thorough investigation.
