According to police, Urooj Fatima, Haleema Saadia and two-year-old Rukoo Fatima had gone missing from the limits of Dinga Police Station. A case regarding their alleged abduction was registered at the police station a day earlier.
The bodies were recovered from a pond located in Mohalla Char Gah, Dinga, on Thursday. A heavy contingent of police reached the scene, while the Crime Scene Unit and teams from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) began collecting evidence.
Police said preliminary investigations suggested that the victims may have died by drowning. However, the exact cause of death will be determined after post-mortem examinations and forensic analysis.
The incident is being investigated from various angles. Gujrat District Police Officer (DPO) and the Superintendent of Police (Investigation) also reached Dinga along with a specialised investigation team.
Police are working to determine how the three women and the child reached the pond and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Further details are expected once the investigation and forensic examination are completed.
