Metro53 - Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, in her message on World Basketball Day, expressed the government’s strong commitment to promoting basketball and other sports across the province.
She said that Punjab’s outstanding victory after 37 years at the 35th National Games, with a total of 126 medals, is highly commendable. She added that international-standard sports complexes are being constructed in Punjab, and athletes will be supported through an endowment fund. She emphasized that sports play a vital role in developing teamwork, competitiveness, and endurance among youth, while also teaching discipline. She noted that the “Khelta Punjab” program has been launched to promote sports in the province.
The Chief Minister further stated that a dedicated department for the construction and rehabilitation of grounds and gymnasiums is being established across Punjab. She reaffirmed her commitment to building 300 grounds and sports complexes for young people. She announced that the Sports Endowment Fund has been increased from Rs 2 billion to Rs 4 billion.
Maryam Nawaz also said that sports festivals will be revived, sports competitions will be held at the union council level, and the Punjab League will be launched. She added that 10 university students will be included as members of the Sports Advisory Council, and international coaches will be brought in for the training of athletes.
